A real bid lives or dies on more than preference points. Industrial Hub checks B-BBEE alongside your CIDB grade, CSD registration and tax status, per tender, against the live feed.

Which system applies: 80/20 or 90/10?

This is a rule set by the Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act (PPPFA) regulations, not by Industrial Hub or any tender platform. The threshold is the estimated Rand value of the contract:

  • 80/20 — contracts with an estimated value up to R50 million. 80 points are awarded for price, 20 for B-BBEE status.
  • 90/10 — contracts with an estimated value above R50 million. 90 points are awarded for price, 10 for B-BBEE status.

The tender document states which system it uses — always check the actual bid pack rather than assuming from the contract size.

Frequently asked questions

What is the 80/20 and 90/10 split?

They are the two price/preference point systems set by the Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act (PPPFA) regulations, not by Industrial Hub. Tenders with an estimated value up to R50 million use 80/20 (80 points price, 20 points B-BBEE); tenders above R50 million use 90/10 (90 points price, 10 points B-BBEE).

How are B-BBEE preference points worked out?

A bidder’s B-BBEE status level (1 to 8, or non-compliant) maps to a fixed number of points on each system’s scale — up to 20 points on 80/20, up to 10 points on 90/10. A Level 1 contributor gets the maximum; a non-compliant bidder gets zero.

Does this calculator check my whole tender readiness?

No. It scores the B-BBEE component only. A real bid also depends on your CIDB grade, CSD registration and tax compliance status, per tender — Industrial Hub checks all of those together against the live South African tender feed.
