About Eskom procurement

Eskom procurement runs across three broadly separate estates, and knowing which one a tender belongs to tells you most of what you need about who can realistically bid. Generation covers the coal fleet, Koeberg and the peaking plants, and leans heavily on mechanical, boiler and turbine disciplines. Transmission, now published separately by the Eskom National Transmission Company of South Africa, concerns lines, substations and servitudes. Distribution is the reticulation network and is where the bulk of smaller regional contracts sit.

Because Eskom publishes far more than any other buyer on the feed, a keyword search against the whole national portal is close to useless for a contractor who only works one discipline. The lists on this page are drawn from the same OCDS records but narrowed to Eskom, and the category breakdown below shows where the current open work actually sits rather than where you might assume it does.

Eskom tenders frequently state a CIDB grade requirement in prose rather than in a structured field, so the requirement is easy to miss when scanning the portal. Industrial Hub parses that requirement out of the title and description and puts it beside your own grade on the tender, so you learn whether you qualify before reading the document rather than after.

Where do Eskom tenders get published?

Eskom publishes to the National Treasury eTenders portal, which is the OCDS feed this page is built from. Eskom also runs its own supplier portal for registration and document collection, but the tender notices themselves appear on eTenders, which is why they can be aggregated here alongside every other buyer.

How many Eskom tenders are open right now?

The count in the stat row above is live and changes daily as tenders close and new ones publish. Eskom typically has substantially more open at any moment than any other single buyer on the feed, spread across generation, transmission and distribution.

Why is Eskom Transmission listed separately?

The Eskom National Transmission Company of South Africa was separated out as part of the unbundling of Eskom into generation, transmission and distribution entities. It publishes tenders under its own buyer name on the feed. This page aggregates both, so you are seeing Eskom group procurement rather than one entity.

Do I need a CIDB grade to bid on Eskom work?

It depends on the tender. Construction and civil work almost always states a minimum CIDB grade and class of works, while supply and professional services frequently do not. Eskom states the requirement in the tender prose rather than a structured field, so read the description carefully before committing to a bid.

What do the award figures on this page mean?

Each award record shows the supplier that won and the rand value of the contract as published in the OCDS award release. They are public records from the national feed, useful mainly as a price reference when you are judging whether your own bid is competitive for similar work.
