ACSA tenders — airport bids and awards

ACSA operates nine airports, and almost everything it tenders has to be delivered around aircraft that keep moving, which shapes the contract far more than the trade involved does.

About ACSA procurement

The ACSA portfolio splits sharply between the three international gateways — OR Tambo, Cape Town and King Shaka — and six regional airports at Bram Fischer, Chief Dawid Stuurman, East London, George, Kimberley and Upington. Contract values differ by an order of magnitude between the two groups, so an apron rehabilitation at a gateway and a terminal refurbishment at a regional airport are effectively separate markets published on one feed.

Airside work is the defining constraint. Runway, taxiway and apron contracts are usually executed in night possessions of a few hours, with the surface handed back serviceable before the first movement, and every person and vehicle needs an airport permit and clearance. Contractors who have not priced night shifts, foreign object debris control and escorted access routinely lose money on their first job here.

Beyond pavements and buildings, ACSA buys airfield ground lighting, baggage handling and screening systems, fire and rescue equipment, energy and water infrastructure, and a steady flow of cleaning, guarding and terminal maintenance services. It also runs commercial processes for retail, advertising and parking concessions, where the bidder is offering rent rather than asking for payment and the adjudication logic is reversed.

Questions about ACSA tenders

Which airports do ACSA tenders cover?
All nine ACSA airports, from OR Tambo down to Upington. The notice normally names the airport in its title or description, and the province breakdown on this page is the quickest way to see whether current open work is anywhere near you.
What makes an airport contract different to build?
Access. Anything past the security fence needs permits, vetting and escorts, work windows are dictated by the flight schedule rather than by daylight, and the site must be handed back clean and serviceable every morning. Price that before treating an ACSA job as ordinary civils.
Does ACSA use CIDB grades?
For construction and building contracts it does, and the class of works follows the trade: civil for pavements and aprons, electrical for lighting and power, general building for terminals. Equipment supply, systems and service contracts on the ACSA list generally do not reference CIDB at all.
Why do two buyer names appear for this organisation?
The eTenders records carry both Airports Company of South Africa and the same name with Limited appended, because the buyer field is free text captured by hand. This page aggregates both, so no ACSA notice is hidden behind a spelling variant.
Are award values published for airport contracts?
Some are. Award releases appear on the feed for a portion of ACSA tenders and show the supplier and the contract value, which is useful as a benchmark on repeatable scopes such as cleaning, guarding and pavement rehabilitation where the work is broadly comparable.
How do I hear about an airport tender early?
Airport work often carries a compulsory briefing within a week or two of publication, so late discovery ends the opportunity outright. Industrial Hub watches the feed continuously: Starter emails up to 3 new matches a day immediately and sends one WhatsApp summary daily; Professional sends up to 3 matching WhatsApp alerts a day within 30 minutes.
